A lot of people don't really seem to know that Guy Gardner's usual arrogant jackass behavior is an act. Well, at least it's supposed to be. When you see things from his point of view, well, at least when handled by writers that actually know him, he's actually incredibly conscientious regarding what he's doing and saying, but has problems putting his foot in his mouth often. Before one of the Crisis retcons happened, he was even a trained prison counselor, and was using his own experiences dealing with his anger issues as a commonality connection with his convicted patients if I remember right.
